PHASE 6

SIX

The ways that I plan on  reaching my target audience vary. I think that I will begin by creating commercials on highly watched TV channels, like Mtv and Vh1. I think that I will then create ads on different websites online, like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Yahoo!. This way, a lot of people will be able to get a small taste of what my business is all about before I go and talk to them personally. I may also begin to try to give different schools presentations on my company, going to different high schools and colleges around the U.S. I think that going directly to the people that I want as my audience will really make them pay attention. When you go, and talk directly at them, they have to listen, and I think that a lot of people will really become passionate about helping these girls. These visits will also be a great time and place to sell my merchandise to the students of these schools.
The methods that I will be using to advertise my business will be a mix of two methods. These two methods are direct marketing and public relations. For direct marketing, I would be focusing on late high school and college students, so I would be going to their schools and giving presentations and possibly giving out leaflets on the subjects that I am discussing. I could also ask for people’s e-mails to send them updates on different subjects that would be going on with my business. I would also be using the method of public relations. I would be going to schools and contacting my audience directly, which is the basis of public relations. I would be having fairs and presentations at schools which is exactly what public relations is.

I will be needing a place of business, for in the U.S., I will be needing an office and at least one store. I think that as my business grows, I can build more stores, so that is not a pressing issue. The office, I think that I could rent a place, for making business plans and so on. Most of my money is to go to building schools in all of the countries that I need to work with. I would be willing to spend nearly all of my money on the schools, because that is the basis of my business. I think that with my original amount of money, it would be accessible to rent an office and to build a few schools. I figure that if my business does succeed and grow, I should be able to build more schools as the time goes on.
For creating my products, I would need to have an agreement with a t-shirt company. They will do all the work for the t-shirts. For the bracelets, I will need to find the surplus products that they have in their communities. I will try to use those products to create the bracelets. I won’t need any special equipment to create the bracelets, because I will have  the girls create them.
I think that the management that I will have for my business will be based off of having a manager for each school’s location. Each of these managers should answer back to the offices back in the U.S. I think that that should keep things in order. The stakeholders will be able to meet together and decide what would be best for the company. This way, they can all meet and make the best decisions for the company. For training, I think that we will have to find competent teachers for all of the different schools. They will all need to have a quality education to teach the kids of the company well. I think that those at the U.S. headquarters should really have different degrees, ones like business and humanities.
I think that at the U.S. headquarters, we should have around 20 staff members. That should cover all of the jobs there. At each of the schools, I think that I should have at least 30 staff members, to cover all of the jobs and to have enough people to help all of the girls. At the U.S. headquarters I think that I would need a lot of people to cover the business aspects of it. At the schools, I think that I will need many teachers and I would also need people to cover business and talk to the businesses that will hire these girls. I think that in the U.S. offices, we could have people working part time and full time. But at the schools, I would need people to work round the clock. They will be responsible for these girls, so they will need to be working at all time. The skills that they will need will have to be in business, if working at the U.S. offices. They will need to be good with kids and responsible if they are working at the schools. I think that I may need to ask other groups and companies about training, because it may be hard to organize a brand new company in other countries.

Phase 5

Phase 5

Market Research

The market research that I have done has lead me to believe that I should really advertise on the internet, on websites like Facebook. Twitter, YouTube, Yahoo!, etc. They are the most visited websites by the age group that I am targeting, in other words, older teens to young adults. I don't think that I would advertise in magazines because I don't think that there is a reliable enough magazine that many young people read. I also think that I could advertise on different channels like Mtv and Vh1, they may seem like just older teen television, but they actually have a lot of advertising for different non-profits, and I think that my organization would be a good company for them to have. The products that I will be providing are bracelets and t-shirts. There is not quite a demand for them, but many people love buying items like these for themselves or for others, to help out a great cause. I also believe that their price could vary from who is buying them, like if an average kid would want to buy one, he would have to pay a lot smaller of a price then, say, a group of wealthy individuals. You could make them pay a lot more than the kids. Location also makes a huge difference, I would need to have an office and maybe a few stores for my products in the city because it's a lot easier to spread word about a business in the city and you also have a lot more people who are open to buying your product.

Competition

The Girl Effect and World Education are my two main competitors, neither of them really offer any sell-able products. The Girl Effect offers free downloadable kits, which are made to help others raise money for their organization. I also think that they both convey their ideas in a good way. They both have on line ads, and the Girl Effect also has many videos on YouTube.

A strength of my business is that it really works hard to cover all of the bases of the issues that these girls face, from IDs to jobs, we strive to do it all. One of my weaknesses is possibly not being able to achieve all that I want for each girl. Not all the girls may be able to get a job, or get out of child marriage. I think that a threat to my business is just not having enough people to be employed. I need teachers and people to run each of the programs in each country, I also need people back in the U.S. to run the business and sell the products. It will be pretty difficult to find that many people up to working for a business like mine.

Phase 4: Enterprise and Market Competition

Phase 4

Enterprise and Market Competition

I think that the product that I will be selling to promote my business are t-shirt an bracelets. T-shirts are really simple to buy, and don’t cost very much money. If we made the shirts $35.00 and gave 60% of the profit to the organization, it would help a lot. I could also sell bracelets that I could have the girls make in their schooling years. If I am the creator of the schools, I can alter it so that the girls can take a small bit out of their time at school to create woven bracelets. I will also create a text line that will let people donate ten dollars from their phone bill to our company. Its an easy, fast way for people to donate.

  • T- shirts:
These shirts can have different graphics on them. Some could say “You Go Girl!” others may say other saying talking about the organization. If I would create these shirts in bulk, they would probably be $10-$12, so I could sell the shirts for $35 and make 60% of the profit go to the girls of the organization. I would have to get an American company to create them, so that we could sell them in the U.S. and we wouldn’t have to create shipping fees that are that high. All of the shirts would be pink and gray, the colors of the business.

  • Woven Bracelets:
The woven bracelets would have to be made in the schools that I create. I would sell one bracelet for $30.00, just to cover all the shipping and handling costs. I would create these bracelets out of any materials that need recycled. Those materials could range from things like tires to news papers. I would try to give 60% of this profit to the girls, just like the t-shirts.

Customers will be able to purchase the t-shirts and bracelets off of the website that I will create. It will be easy access to these products and an easy way to keep all of the orders that are taken organized. It will also be an easy way to get advertised if we can put ads up on other websites that lead you to our website and online store. The ads can also display the text line that can help you to donate $10 to the foundation.
The contractors or suppliers that I will need to contact will be some sort of t-shirt company. I will need a company with fair prices and a company that I can order high amounts of bulk t-shirts at. I will also need to find a company that can supply me with materials that I can use for the bracelets. I may be able to look around these girls towns and find different dumps that I could get the materials very cheap from. The creation of the bracelets will be done by the girls. I will also need to find a company that can help me to build schools in the other countries.

Rush Order Tees is a company that I would think about using for the t-shirts. They sell t-shirts in bulk and it would be easy to design my t-shirts there as well. I could decide what it looked like with the design station on the website.

For the bracelets, I would have to go to each individual country and to each individual community to find out the materials that they have and the materials that they would need to have recycled. It shouldn’t be hard to find a product that they have a surplus of that we could use.

This is a great company that builds important buildings for third world countries, like schools or houses.I think that they would be a great group to use to build the schools because they already work in places like Southern Africa and parts of Asia. They use whatever materials that they have access to in the area that they are building their buildings. They even use products like grasses and mud to create buildings. If I could team up with them, I’m sure that they would be willing to work with me on this project.

The Market and Competition

There are other businesses that are offering similar services to girls. One of these organizations is The Girl Effect. They do a lot of the same work that I do. They provide ID, education, and find good jobs for their girls. One thing that they do not do is to create their own schools for these girls. The Girl Effect also doesn’t provide any products for you to buy. They only really have packages that you can download onto your computer to help the individual to raise their own money for The Girl Effect. There are also a few companies that are addressing similar issues, like education for girls. The group World Education has helped girls to get an education and helps them to improve their life in general. They are primarily focused on education, while I focus everything, ID, education, HIV and AIDS, child marriage, and a job.

Phase 3: Executive Summary and Desired Social Impact

Executive Summary

70% of the world's out of school children are girls. Less than two percent of every international aid dollar goes to the girls of these countries. Girls of underdeveloped countries are struggling, and some one needs to help. If we could provide these girls with an education, and ID, and a safe job, these girls could thrive. By providing these girls with these few simple things, they can truly change the world.
What we really need to provide is a stable lifestyle for them. We need to first get them an ID. This can help them to prove and know their age. It is also necessary for them to be able to vote and to eventually get a job. They will also need an education for the jobs that my company will set up for them in the future.Financially, we will need to continue to receive donations, which will go to everything from building all girl schools to buying the IDs that the girls will need.

Desired Social Impact

With the company You Go Girl!, I would like to try to impact everyone positively. Obviously, the girls will have a better life because they will not be forced into child marriage, they will have an education, and they will have a safe job. The company will effect the entire world positively by creating a better economy. It will also help the entire world because it will begin to stop the segregation of men and women in these third world countries. If there is less tension between men and women, there won't be as much confrontation, which is better for everyone. You Go Girl! will help to encourage growth in these countries by having girls be in charge of money. Girls are proven to reinvest their money back into their communities at a much higher rate then men would. They will help to grow their countries economically by possibly helping out small businesses or donating to them. Finally, girls can positively effect their families by helping to make money.Their families won't be in such financial ruin if there is another person there to bring in a decent amount of money.

VISION, MISSION, OBJECTIVES, ACTIVITIES

Vision, Mission, Objectives, and Activities

Vision

The vision that I have for my business is to just help the general population of girls on the planet. I basically just want to improve the general lifestyle of girls in underdeveloped countries, and while helping them, help to improve their countries as well.

Mission

My mission for my business is to create a better lifestyle for these girls and to create a safe working and living environment for them. I just want the girls to have a better life, and if they have a better life then they can help their communities achieve a better life and living conditions.

Objectives

My objectives for You Go Girl! are basically that I want the papers to say that I've had a graduating class of girls that are now moving on to safe and successful jobs. I also hope that the headlines would say that we got the girls out of child marriage. I would hope that it would say that we are now in a good financial place and that donations keep coming in.

Activities

What we will need to is build schools in these girls countries to have a safe all girls location for them to thrive in. We will also need to set up jobs in local businesses for these girls that are safe and respectable. We will also need to talk with the men and the leaders of their areas to make sure that they will not be abused for their education when they come back home to begin their jobs. Finally, we need to make sure that people keep donating. We could create a monthly payment plan to make it easier for people who don't have a lot of free time to donate.

What is a social entrepreneur?

What is a social entrepreneur?

Social entrepreneurs are people who have noticed a need in their community or somewhere in the world, and have come up with a way of remedying that issue.

How did it start?

The first time that the term "Social Entrepreneurship was used was in the 1960's and 1970's to express the need of social change. The term became more popular in the 1980's and 1990's promoted by Bill Dayton, who was the founder of Ashoka:Innovators for the Public, and others. From the 1950's to the 1990's Micheal Young was the leading promoter of social enterprise. Though a lot of these situations have been more recent, social entrepreneurship has been going on throughout history. Florence Nightingale founded the first nursing school and she also developed many modern day nursing practices. Vinoba Bhave founded India's Land Gift Movement.

How does Social Entrepreneurship work?

Social Entrepreneurship works in the way of trying to raise money and awareness for a certain cause or issue. The social entrepreneur only quest is to raise awareness or money for their cause. They can do this by selling items, creating presentations for different locations, or even just making a website. People who hear or know about the cause are usually welcome to help out the cause by using their own method to help raise awareness and money for the cause as well.

Examples of Social Entrepreneurship

Anita Ahuja founded the Conserve India company. Through this organization, Anita has addressed the problems with sanitation, water, and unemployment. She creates different products out of the plastic waste in India. In her business, she sells items such as purses and wallets. Her business began as a fledgling recycling project, but soon after starting the project, they faced a huge issue. What do you do with the thousands of plastic bags that could not be recycled or composted locally? They began to create wallets, bags, shoes, and belts with this product. As the business continued on, they began to use other items, such as older car seat belts, denim, and rubber tubes for their products. As of now, this company is employing hundreds of India's people in more disadvantaged areas to clear out the areas of this waste.Once they sell these products, the profit goes back to the communities to create education and welfare programs. This business is currently thriving, and helping many hundreds of people while doing so.
Yehudah Paz created a mission for the middle east, called NISPED, which started with him noticing all of the training, resource and support limits that these areas have. He decided to base his movement to not to use the typical "foreign aid" like so many western organizations, but to come in and combine outside expertise with local norms and wisdom. This way, there is no issue with modernizing the area, because he is doing gradually, with the help of tradition. This helps him to be non-threatening, comprehensive, and effective.
